Discouraging

I have a finished sock.

Really, this picture doesn't do it justice at all. Let's look at another one.

See the problem now? Maybe this next one is the best illustration.

This is a Very Big Sock. And not in a good way--not in the way David's kilt hose are very big socks. Those are supposed to be big. This is just too big.

Sigh. I swatched! I did math! ...And when I saw that it was too big, I kept going--and the sock didn't magically shrink during knitting! So unfair.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. For now, it's in time out.

I also got started crocheting a purse from the recycled sari silk yarn Mom sent me. I took a few pictures, but they were ridiculously dark so I'm not posting them. I might rip it out and start over--I think my purse bottom is too long. Also, it's kind of lumpy and uneven, but that might be because the yarn is so unevenly spun (instead of being some fault in my crocheting). And this was supposed to be the quick, easy, instant gratification project!

All in all, the last few days have been real downers, craft-wise. Maybe it's time to cast on a nice dishcloth.

It's a Christmas stocking!! Don't get discouraged, this stuff happens (an will continue to happen.) You just have o laugh it off and move on. At least you didn't make a three armed sweater.

Yep, the sari yarn does work up lumpy and uneven because it's so unevenly spun, but it does look wonderful when it's done. I promise. Oh, and I wear a size 10 wide shoe. Hmm, might you have been knitting socks for your bigfooted mom? Don't get discouraged, Ann, everybody is always in denial. In a few weeks you'll be home and I can spoil you for a few days. Yippee!

Love you lots.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. :)

Maybe it's socks for a yeti? (Such a cool name for a snow beast.) I had to leave my knitting/crocheting bag home today. I yarned so much yesterday that my fingers are still numb. Grrr.

Ann -
I have socks that look just like that big one! They're called slipper socks and I wear them the nights when David keeps the window open and I freeze. :)
I think its great, and very pretty as well :)

It happens to the best of us. At least it's not so big that it looks horrible on your foot! The sari silk does make a lumpy bumpy project, especially in crochet. You could always go up a hook size to give it more drape, but if it's for a purse, that might make it too loose. You'll get it!
